Briullov, K. P. "Italian Midday". 1827

Notes: Italian Midday (Italian Girl Picking Grapes) The painting from Briullov's early years in Italy showing a young woman picking grapes reflects the artist's love of Italian life and naturalist subjects. Other works of this time also feature idyllic themes that do not focus on narrative content or story. They differ from Briullov's most celebrated work, "The Last Day of Pompeii" of 1833 (see ImageBase) where he preferred the moral lesson from history over the sentimental genre subject designed to inspire contemplation.
