The historical and cultural center of St. Petersburg is located on the "Admiralty" side of the Neva River. This district grew around the Admiralty building, the nucleus of Peter the Great's original city. In this view, one sees the Admiralty in the distance, across the river to the right and the Winter Palace extending and receding to the left.
