1.6. NAMES AND NICKNAMES

1. Read section 1.6 on page 8 of the Textbook.
2. Do Exercise 2 on page 8 of the Textbook.
   
3. Do online Exercise 0236. Listening exercise.
4. Do online Exercise 0335. Dictation.
• List the names into two groups, one for males and another one for females.
• Most of the names in this exercise are diminutives. Can you figure out what the equivalent given name is?
• Which name would you pick for yourself.

1.7 PATRONYMICS AND LAST NAMES

1. Read section 1.7 on page 9 of the Textbook and learn how to make patronymics from first names. Now do Exercise 3 in this section. You may want to record the names in this exercise and send your recording to the instructor to be checked for accuracy.
2. How many of these individuals are familiar to you? Do you know the names of any other famous Russians?
3. Do Exercise 4 on page 10 of the Textbook.
4. Do Exercise 5 on page 10 of the Textbook.
5. You may have seen other names of famous Russians written in English. Try to write their names in Russian.
6. Write your name and the names of your friends and relatives in Russian. You should write the names by the way they are pronounced, not by the way they are spelled.
7. Now do Exercises Д on page 18 of the Workbook, or online Exercise 0364.
8. Do Exercise Е on pages 19 of the Workbook.
